March is Senior Pet Awareness Month at the Addison Animal Hospital.

We are excited to launch our new Senior Comprehensive Wellness Evaluation Program.

As animals age, just like people, they can develop more problems. Sometimes they occur without visible signs. The program is designed to detect problems with our patients earlier in the course of disease when they are most treatable. It is helpful because our patients cannot verbally communicate with us. Also, physical exams do not always pinpoint the cause of illness, especially when signs are vague, such as decreased appetite or lethargy. So many conditions or illnesses can cause generalized signs like that. Diagnostic tests are a vital part of establishing a diagnosis in many cases.

In addition to a comprehensive physical exam, our Senior Program includes a CBC (complete blood count), Chemistry panel (approximately 24 tests to evaluate the liver, kidneys, pancreas, blood sugar, protein levels, electrolytes, etc), 2 thyroid blood tests, urinalysis, fecal parasite exam, heartworm test, blood pressure, 2 X-rays (1 chest and 1 abdomen), and an EKG.
This exam and these tests when done individually would cost $641.The Senior Program when done together will only cost $495. That is over $150 in savings.

If you are interested in participating in the program please give us a call at 630-543-9500 to schedule an appointment. Patients will need to be dropped off in the morning between 8:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. They will go home that afternoon, and a discharge appointment will be set up for 2-3 days later with the doctor to discuss the results of the tests.
